Sharp launches phones in India

Electronics and aircraft manufacturer, Sharp Business Systems India has announced its entry into the mobile phone market with the launch of a range of fashion phones, but price-sensitive consumers.

"Sharp enjoys a high brand recall when it comes to business solutions. But this is the first time that we have decided to tap the huge growth potential of a consumer-driven segment," SBSIL General Manager (Marketing) Kishlay Ray said in a statement.

Phones have been designed with young people 16-30 years of age group, urban and semi-urban areas, he added.

According to Sharp phones offer features such as full touch screen LCD display, G-Sensor, the network of social services context, LED lighting, Bluetooth, FM radio, dual SIM facility, and a camera. The company said that it will inform the various bids over the next six months on building the brand.According to industry estimates, the mobile phone market in India grew by 4.2 percent in terms of total turnover in 2009-10, compared to 7.9 percent expansion in 2008-09.
